About Elizabeth Shutters
Who is Elizabeth Shutters?
California’s leading manufacturer of handcrafted interior shutters and custom closet doors, built from 100% solid basswood and architectural-grade materials. Founded over three decades ago, we remain locally owned, operating our own Colton workshop.
What makes Elizabeth Shutters different?
We design, build, finish, and install every product ourselves — no outsourcing, no imported panels. This full-service approach guarantees precision fit, shorter lead times, and direct accountability.
Where are your products made?
All shutters and closet doors are manufactured in Colton, CA, then delivered and installed by our in-house teams across California and Nevada.
How long have you been in business?
Elizabeth Shutters has served homeowners since the early 1980s, earning a reputation for craftsmanship, reliability, and personal service.
Materials & Quality
What are your shutters made of?
Each shutter is handcrafted from 100% solid basswood, chosen for its fine grain, strength, and stability. We never use MDF, vinyl, or plastic composites.
What are your closet doors made of?
Solid wood or engineered hardwood frames, paired with mirror, frosted glass, chalkboard, or painted panels. All materials are furniture-grade, built for beauty and long-term performance.
Why is basswood best for shutters?
Basswood is lightweight yet strong, with minimal warping in heat or humidity. It’s perfect for California’s coastal and inland climates and accepts paint or stain with a flawless finish.
Do shutters and closet doors improve energy efficiency?
Yes. Solid-wood shutters add insulation and light control, while mirror or frosted-glass closet doors brighten rooms and reduce the need for artificial lighting.
Design & Customization
What design options are available for closet doors?
Bifold, bypass (sliding), 3-track systems, mirrored, frosted-glass, chalkboard, and paneled wood closet doors — all made to your exact opening and style.
Do you offer specialty shutters?
Yes. We design arched, bay, circular, and French-door shutters with custom louvers, frames, and hidden tilt rods.
What louver sizes are available?
2.5″, 3.5″, and 4.5″. The 3.5″ is most popular for the balance it strikes between light and privacy.
Can you create oversized or wall-to-wall closet doors?
Yes. Our 3-track sliding systems handle wide spans with smooth, quiet operation — ideal for large closets or laundry areas.
Service, Warranty & Process
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. Because we build, finish, and install everything ourselves, we stand behind our shutters and closet doors with a comprehensive warranty on materials and workmanship. Your design consultant will review the full warranty details for your specific products.
Is the in-home consultation really free?
Yes — completely free and no-obligation. We come to your home, take precise measurements, show you materials and finishes in your own light, and provide an exact, itemized quote. There is no pressure to buy.
How long does the process take from order to installation?
Because we manufacture locally in Colton rather than importing panels, our lead times are typically shorter than national brands. Most orders are measured, built, finished, and installed within a few weeks. Your consultant will confirm an exact timeline at the time of order.
What does installation involve?
Our own installation teams handle everything — they protect your floors and furnishings, remove old coverings or doors if needed, mount and align each panel, and clean up completely. Most homes are finished in a single visit.
Do you offer financing?
Financing options are available to help spread the investment into manageable monthly payments. Ask your design consultant about current plans and qualification during your consultation.
How much do custom shutters cost?
Pricing depends on the size of your windows, louver size, specialty shapes, and finish. As a made-to-order, solid-basswood product installed by our own team, our shutters are priced as a long-term investment rather than a disposable window covering. Your free in-home quote gives you an exact, transparent price with no surprises.
Do you repair or refinish existing shutters?
Yes. We repair loose louvers, broken tilt rods, sagging panels, and worn hardware — usually right in your home — and we refinish or repaint tired finishes to factory-new condition, even on shutters we didn’t originally build.
How do I clean and care for my shutters?
Solid-basswood shutters need very little upkeep. Dust the louvers regularly with a soft cloth or duster, and wipe occasionally with a slightly damp cloth. Avoid soaking the wood or using harsh chemical cleaners, and your finish will stay beautiful for decades.
What areas do you serve?
We design, deliver, and install throughout California and Nevada, with in-house teams serving Southern California, the Bay Area, Sacramento, San Diego, and the greater Las Vegas/Henderson region.
